MOPS / MOMSNext
At MOPS/MOMSNext, we gather and support moms. We believe in the simple but revolutionary idea that remarkable things happen when moms come together, face to face. That’s why we rally women to come together in their own neighborhoods and help each other through this thing called motherhood, one gathering at a time.
Our acronym stands for “Mothers of Preschoolers” because we began in 1973 when a group of moms of young children banded together to share their lives and parenting journeys. Over the past forty-five years, MOPS has expanded our reach to include moms with older kids, partnering with churches and organizations worldwide to equip and encourage moms in more than 60 countries.

Family Promise is a program that helps homeless families remain together while seeking a new home! Churches in Erie County take turns feeding and housing the families overnight in a safe, secure setting, for one week at a time. This occurs 4-5 times a year. The families are referred by schools, churches and social services. Each family member is vetted before the family is put in the program. The organization provides access to computers and phones for those looking for employment as well as housing. There are counselors helping these families through the process. Children are able to keep attending their schools, and pre-schoolers have daycare available while parents look for affordable, safe housing.
Zion’s part in this program is to be a support for the host church, Church of Christ in Clarence. We are responsible for Monday and Tuesday evenings. We provide a meal at 5:00 PM, staff the social hours between 7 and 9 PM, and then stay overnight from 9 PM – 7 AM. Our purpose is to be there for support in case of emergency – power loss, water issues, loss of heat, etc. We are the ones who would make the emergency phone call. We are not expected to entertain the families, but if they feel like talking, we are there to listen. If you are interested in helping with this Outreach program, please contact the Church Office at 741-2656.
